Equal Split
An equal split divides a shared expense evenly between all participants.
For example, if four people share a £120 restaurant bill, an equal split means each person pays £30.
When equal splits work well
Equal splits are commonly used when:
- Everyone benefits equally from an expense.
- Usage is similar between participants.
- Simplicity is more important than precision.
Examples include:
- Shared meals.
- Group activities.
- Household subscriptions.
- Travel expenses.
Limitations of equal splitting
An equal split may not always reflect individual circumstances. If people use different amounts of a service or have different financial situations, another method may be more appropriate.
